Pros
The Mi 8 has an attractive design and an AMOLED screen with DCI-P3 as well as HDR10 compatibility. It has a fast processor, great front and rear cameras, and long battery life. There's 4K video recording at 60fps. Extras such as IR face unlock and Quick Charge 4.0+ make the Mi 8 an even more attractive option.
Cons
4K video recording could've had better stabilisation and USB Type-C port could've had faster speed. There's no microSD card slot or a 3.5mm headphone jack. Its predecessor, the Mi 6 had an IP rating and stereo speakers, both of which Xiaomi removed from the Mi 8 for some reason.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 succeeds the Mi 6, and it brings a bezel-less screen design. There s a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution (2248x1080 pixels). There s a notch at the top, but it also brings support for DCI-P3 colour gamut and HDR10 compatibility. The screen is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 panel. The Mi 8 has a glass-and-metal design, with the metal part being Series 7000 Aluminium and the glass part being Gorilla Glass 5.
Snapdragon 845, 8GB RAM, 256GB Storage
The Mi 8, which runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 10, comes equipped with 2018 s best Qualcomm mobile platform: Snapdragon 845. There s up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB UFS storage. There s also a lower priced model with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. There s a mid-priced variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. There s no microSD card slot, though, so storage expansion isn t possible.
Dual 12MP Rear Camera, 20MP Selfie Camera
There are two 12MP cameras at the Mi 8 s rear. The primary 12MP .55-inch camera sensor has f/1.8 aperture, 1.4 micron pixels, dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus and 4-axis OIS. The secondary 12MP camera uses a smaller ?.4-inch sensor, f/2.4 aperture, 1 micron pixels, and 2x optical zoom lens (56mm). The rear-facing camera setup has dual-LED flash and can record 4K videos at a maximum frame rate of 30fps. The 20MP selfie camera at the front has fixed focus, f/2.0 aperture and 0.9 micron pixels. The phone can capture images with background blur (bokeh or portrait mode) using front and rear cameras.
Fingerprint Reader+IR Face Unlock, 3400mAh Battery
There are two biometric authentication systems in the Mi 8: fingerprint reader and IR face unlock. The IR face unlock related sensors are placed in the screen notch area at the front. The fingerprint reader is placed at the rear. The Mi 8 features two SIM card slots, 4G LTE, GPS, dual-band gigabit Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and a USB 2.0 Type-C port. The phone lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack, though, something that has been disappearing from phones since 2016. The Mi 8 s 3400mAh battery can be fast-charged and it has Quick Charge 4.0+ certification.
